New a capella group creates space for diverse voices

Music has always been the foundation of my life. My childhood was painted with ‘90s R&B filling the rooms of my home, lyrics scribbled in and out of composition notebooks, dresses dragging along choir risers and a song always stuck in my head. My parents' love story blossomed in their middle school choir. I’ve always felt the most myself singing, and anytime I was feeling lost or having a hard time, music was there to ground me. 
Auditions for IC Unbound Dance Company, a student-led dance group, were held Aug. 3 in the Fitness Center. Students of all years came together for all styles of dance, learning the combinations just minutes before their auditions.

Lights, cameras, action! Audition season sweeps Ithaca with full force

In mid-to-late August, audition season starts in full force across Ithaca College. During the beginning of each fall semester, students prepare for auditions throughout the Dillingham Center, the Roy H. Park School of Communications and in dorms for a wide plethora of open spots in a cappella and dance groups, ICTV shows, plays and music ensembles.

“Everyone who’s in it pretty much tried out for another a cappella group or didn’t get a chance to try out for one,” Damien McMillan said.
The members of Premium Blend following their first place finish at the International Collegiate Championship of A Cappella Quarterfinal competition on Feb. 6. In addition to first place, the group also won best choreography and best soloist, and will move onto the semifinals.
