Tyler, the Creator dropped his most personal album to date Oct. 28. “CHROMAKOPIA” explores themes about Tyler’s struggles with love, sexuality and the idea of fatherhood. To get a full week of Billboard chart tracking, artists typically release new music on Fridays at midnight, but Tyler chose to release his album on a Monday at 6 a.m. instead. He said he wanted his fans to be able to listen to the album with their full attention. He also made the creative decision to hide his features upon release, so they do not distract fans from listening to the full album.
PinkPantheress used to crank out new songs nearly every day, releasing these bite-sized, hooky and minimal pop songs on TikTok to a small audience. It didn’t take long, however, for the ’90s drum and bass samples, dreamy synths and high breathy vocals to spread on the platform like wildfire. These songs stitched together sticky choruses, ear-catching production and virality in tiny packages, usually shorter than two minutes long.
The near 45-minute album is liberating, inspired and transformative. “Black Rainbows” is unafraid to be gritty in the humanity, hope and pain that fuels the topic matter, as well as in its spunky, yet sensual, production. The intricate focus clearly put on placing these songs in the right order on the tracklist helps enhance the listening experience.
