In honor of International Women Day, some women of Ithaca decided to celebrate in a way that would ensure the community understands their importance.

The Ithaca College contingent faculty unions announced March 8 that they will be filing an unfair labor practice lawsuit against the college.
Pictured above is a previous rally held for the contingent faculty unions. Since it was held on Oct. 19, the part time–faculty union has made progress in negotiations with the administration but still remain stuck on compensation — the one issue that might send them to strike.

Members of the Ithaca College part time–faculty union walked out of negotiations with the administration Sept. 23 after receiving what they said was a disappointing counterproposal on compensation. On Dec. 8, the union announced that it may hold a strike vote at the beginning of next semester.

Oil workers on strike

Just yesterday, about 1,400 workers from two more oil refineries — BP's Whiting and Toledo, Ohio operations — joined the strike, now 11 refineries strong. The Climate March walked through both of these refineries. I imagine some of the very same workers we spoke to in Whiting are now risking their livelihood to demand better working conditions.
