When she was 13.Mary Beth Tinker and fellow classmates in Des Moines, Iowa, were suspended for wearing black armbands to school in protest of the Vietnam War.
Junior and senior MLK Scholars traveled to Da Nang, Vietnam, over winter break with a focus on the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam and community service. The scholars held an event April 21, which was part of a discussion series by the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity.
