On April 25, the Campus Climate Committee co-chairs, in association with representatives from Rankin Climate, a company that collects institutional climate assessment data, gave two community presentations about the Key Findings report that was released April 16.

Students at Cornell University have set up an encampment on the Arts Quad at the university. According to a press release from The Coalition for Mutual Liberation, the group is "calling for Cornell to fully divest from companies that support the ongoing genocide in Gaza and end its close relationship with Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, with which it shares a campus in New York City."

Freedom of the press is an essential part of the U.S. Constitution and of any newsroom, allowing journalists to freely critique institutions and expose important issues to keep the world at large informed. However, the 2023 Sundance U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award Winner for Freedom of Expression provides a gateway to understanding how easily people can take that right for granted.

Over the weekend of April 27 and 28, Ithaca College is putting its own spin on comic conventions with ITHACON 47, a two-day event that takes convention staples, such as cartoon screenings and panels featuring comic book creators, and gives them a local feel.

The Ithaca College lacrosse team sent its seniors off on a high note, defeating Liberty League rival, the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds 15–10 April 27. The Bombers got their first and only conference win of the season.

Despite critical appeal never being lost for grunge icon Pearl Jam, 2020’s “Gigaton” was a commercial disappointment, becoming the band’s first album since 2002’s “Riot Act” to not chart at No. 2 or higher in the United States. Seeing this, the band decided to bring on GRAMMY award-winning producer Andrew Watt to help infuse modern magic into the band. This resulted in Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album “Dark Matter” which was released April 19. While the hard guitars and Vedder’s unique vocals are still present, Watt’s history of producing for pop stars is shown through the tendency to opt for more light instrumental starts.

The environment in which people live and work can be one of the most critical factors in determining both success and fulfillment. Who wants to work, study or live in a place where they do not feel comfortable? To gauge the comfort of students, staff and faculty, Ithaca College released a campus climate survey this fall after the last survey was done in 2016. The willingness to engage in conversations regarding campus climate is a good first step on behalf of the college, but it must be followed by engagement from all members of the campus community.
