The Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team dominated Regis College 24–2 on May 14 at Trinity College in the first round of the NCAA Championship. The win was the Bombers’ first in the NCAA Championship since 2001, when they defeated St. Mary’s College 9–8.
Freshman attackman Danika Wagener scored four goals for the Bombers, with freshman midfielder Allison Panara and junior midfielder Morgan Cadwell each adding three goals.
Regis struck first with a goal from senior midfielder Sam Salamone in the first half, but the Blue and Gold took control from there. The Bombers, starting with a goal and an assist from senior midfielder Riley Marion, tallied the game’s next four scores, giving them an early 4–1 advantage.
The Bombers continued to find the back of the net, closing out the first half with a 16–2 lead, before shutting out Regis 8–0 in the second half.
Thirteen different Bombers got on the board, while Salamone and freshman attackman Emily Kosak scored the lone goals for the Pride.
Senior goalkeeper Emma Decker saved 11 shots for Regis, while junior goalkeeper Emily Ross allowed two goals without a save before sophomore goalkeeper Kimberly Presuto took over, picking up one save in the second half.
The Bombers outshot Regis 41–3, taking 22 out of 27 draw controls in the process. The South Hill squad also won the turnover battle, succumbing to 13 turnovers while forcing 22.
The Bombers will play Trinity College in the second round of the NCAA Championship at 1 p.m. May 15 in Hartford, Connecticut.
