The Ithaca College field hockey team lost to the University of Rochester, which is ranked No. 18 in the country, 4–1 Sept. 1 at Fauver Stadium in Rochester, New York.
Last year, the Bombers upset Rochester when they were ranked No. 15. This game kicked off the 2016–2017 athletic season.
Rochester started off strong, scoring two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. Their first shot on goal came at the fourth minute of the game and they scored their first goal five minutes later. The Yellow Jackets scored three more times at minutes 12, 44 and 52. Four different players scored for the Yellow Jackets.
Down 4–0 with six minutes left in the game, the Bombers were able to push across a stout Rochester defense for a goal by senior forward Colleen Keegan-Twombly, assisted by junior forward Amanda Schell.
The squad will play again at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 against rival SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York. Their first home game will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 against Utica College in Higgins Stadium.
