Ice Skating is a great low-impact cardio workout! You also use your entire body: your arms swing for momentum, your legs glide across the ice, your abs and lower back help you keep your balance. You won’t even notice that you’re working out.
Cass Park ice rink in downtown Ithaca is now open through March 9th!
Mon-Fri 9:30am-2:15pm and 2:30-5:00pm (5:30 pm on Fri)
Fri & Sat nights- 7:00-10:00pm
Sat & Sun- 2:30pm-5:15pm
Swimming laps is another excellent, full body cardio workout! It’s also a great way to tone your muscles because the water provides resistance on every stroke you take. Your body’s buoyancy in water also makes your body weight feel light, so the pool is an ideal place to work out even when you feel sore or stiff because your muscles won’t feel as tired. Swimming strokes also provide your muscles with a good stretch, and the heated water helps you move more easily.
The A&E Center pool is open to the IC community for open lap swimming during the following times:
Mon – Fri: 6:00am-9:00am, 11:00am-2:00pm, 8:00pm-10:00pm
Sat & Sun: 12:00pm-5:00pm
**Be sure to check the A&E Center website before you go to make sure the pool isn’t closed due to swim meets!
Rock Climbing is an awesome alternative indoor workout! You have the benefit of using your own body weight to tone your muscles. Climbing will target muscles in your arms, chest, back, and legs. Reaching for the rocks also increases your flexibility, giving your body a nice stretch. Our fitness center has a rock climbing wall and it costs $5 per session (or you can get a semester pass for $30).
The Fitness center rock wall is open at the following times:
Mon – 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Tues/Thurs- 8:00pm to 11:00pm
Wed – 9:00pm – 11:00pm
Sun – 5:00pm to 7:00pm
