Ithaca College volleyball defeats rival SUNY Cortland

After defeating Alfred University on Sept. 27, the Ithaca College volleyball team defeated SUNY Cortland 3–1 Oct. 4 to extend its win streak to two.

The team started off strong winning the first set 25–6. In the second set the Bombers lost their lead halfway to allow the Red Dragons to take the set 22–25.

The Bombers were down for the entire third set up until they tied Cortland 22–22. In the end, the team came back from behind to take the third set 25–22. In the fourth set, it was a close matchup throughout, but the Bombers won the set and the match to defeat the Red Dragons by a score of 25–18.

In the win, sophomore middle hitter Katie Evans led the team, scoring 15 points with 14 kills. Junior setter Kayla Gromen led the team with 30 assists and junior defensive specialist Marlee Wierda led the team with three aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Tara Stilwell led with 23 digs.

The Bombers’ record improves to 14–4, while the Red Dragons drop to 11-9. The team’s next games will be played at 11 a.m. Oct. 8 against Empire 8 rivals St. John Fisher College and Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York.
