The Ithaca College women’s soccer team had its eighth shutout win and secured a spot in the Empire 8 Championship in an away game against St. John Fisher College on Oct. 22. The Bombers defeated the Cardinals 2–0 and now move to 10–2–2 overall and 5–1–1 in conference play.
The Bombers came out strong and took a total of 10 shots in the first half, while the Cardinals only took two.
In the 10th minute of play, senior forward Megan Nash found the back up the net to put the Bombers up 1–0.
The Bombers were continuing to dominate the game when freshman forward Jordyn Haynes beat out the Cardinal’s senior goalkeeper Gabriella Cotugno for a goal, bringing the score to 2–0 in the 38th minute of play.
In the second half of the match, the Cardinals attempted a comeback but could not get passed the Bomber’s defense. Fisher attempted three shots but could not get to the back of the net, ultimately falling to the Blue and Gold.
Freshman goalkeeper Sara Jakobsze secured her first career win and shutout, after starting and making one save.
The Bombers next game is at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 when they play Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
