The Ithaca College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams beat SUNY Cortland on Nov. 5 at the Harriet Holsten Pool. The women’s team defeated the Red Dragons 217.5–82.5, while the men’s team won 182.5–105.5.
The women’s team won all 16 events. The 400-meter relay, consisting of freshman Justine Wantz and seniors Sam Reilly, Grace Ayer and Lake Duffy, finished with a time of 4:05.28. Sophomore Hannah Parbst took the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:17.06, with fellow Bomber Nilza Costa close behind.
Duffy won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.36, almost two seconds faster than the first Cortland swimmer. Reilly narrowly finished first in the 100-yard backstroke 0.65 seconds ahead of Cortland swimmer sophomore Natalie Johnson. Freshman Ashley Warren took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.03. Freshman Emily Altchiler won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:16.56.
Sophomores Genny Tripler and Jackie Pecze came in first and second in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 25.88 and 25.92 respectively. The women’s 100-yard freestyle was dominated by the Bombers. Ayer, Duffy and Wantz finished first, second and third, while Reilly came in first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.03 seconds.
Parbst and sophomore Casey Koenig finished in first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke. In the 500-yard freestyle, senior Brenna Dowd won with a time of 5:31.17. Ayer won again in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.27 seconds and senior Miranda Wingfield finished second in the 200-yard IM, behind Altchiler in first.
The women’s diving team had three top finishers in 1-meter diving. Junior Alyssa Wishart took first place with a score of 246.90 while juniors Lindsey Suddaby and Katie Helly finished in second and third, respectively. Suddaby and Helly also finished first and second in 3-meter diving.
The men’s team finished first in its opening event, the 200-yard medley relay. Freshman Andrew Mikhailichenko, sophomores Bradley Keith and Aaron Levin and senior Adam Zelehowsky finished in 1:38.10 seconds, over two seconds ahead of Cortland’s team.
Levin won the 200-yard 100-yard freestyle. Mikhailichenko came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Jake Hewitt finished the 200-yard butterfly almost nine seconds ahead of the next swimmer, Cortland sophomore Adam Kirchgessner. Zelehowsky won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Gregory Markert completed the 200-yard backstroke with a winning time of 2:03.37 seconds. Mikhailichenko finished first in the 200-ypard breaststroke and Hewitt won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:00.77 seconds.
Freshman Matt Quinney won the 200-yard Individual Medley by over four seconds. The men’s team won the 400-yard freestyle relay. Levin, Mikhailichenko, Zelehowsky and sophomore Kellen Scanlan swam a time of 3:14.28.
In the diving pool, sophomore Josh Briggs placed second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter divings.
The women’s team is now 4–0, the men’s team 3–1. The women’s team will host William Smith College at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Athletics and Events Center. Both the men’s and women’s team will compete again at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Athletics and Events Center against Le Monye College.
