The men’s swimming and diving team dominated rival SUNY-Cortland on Saturday in the Athletics and Events Center Pool, winning 231-67. The Bombers placed first in all 16 events and had 11 individual winners along with the 200-yard medley relay team and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Senior Jeff Rapp helped set the tone for the meet by winning the opening 200-yard medley relay along with sophomore Connor White, junior Jake Lichter and freshman Peter Knight. Rapp also won three individual events — the 100-yard backstroke (54.99 seconds), 200-yard backstroke (2:00.88) and 200-yard individual medley (2:02.72). Rapp said he was pleased with his performance.
“I swam pretty well today, and had one of my best times in the 100since I was a freshman,” he said.
Senior Derek Rand who won the 1-meter diving event with 265.10 points and the 3-meter dive with 247.55 points. Junior Chris Caldwell won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.70) sophomore Taylor Van Cott won the 200 butterfly (2:00.82), senior Antoine Connors won the 50-yard freestyle (21.99 seconds), junior Jake Robbins won the 100 free (48.77), and Cheffy Thomas won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.12).
Head Coach Kevin Markwadt was extremely happy with the way his team performed.
“I thought it was gonna be a close meet, but we swam really well,” he said. “We’re doing times well within or better than I hoped we would.”
The Bombers will face Hamilton College, SUNY-Geneseo and Hartwick College in their next meet Nov. 19 in the Aquatics Pavilion.
