On Oct. 24, the Ithaca College women’s soccer team took on the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers at Carp Wood Field where both benches were electric from the start.
The competition ultimately broke even at 0–0, bringing the Bombers’ record to an impressive 9–2–3 overall and 5–1–2 in-conference.
Fast–paced play characterized the first half with both sides working well on the wings. An early chance for RIT came in the first minute, but was defended well by the Bombers to avoid trouble.
A good chance for the Bombers came in the 7th minute with a shot by senior midfielder Ally Stanton. The shots kept coming as the Bombers created chances with solid ball movement across the field. However, the Tigers would have some chances of their own with their first shot coming in the 13th minute by junior midfielder Olivia Harris, but just missing the goal.
With physical play in midfield, the Bombers drew a whistle that allowed the offense to create space for a scoring opportunity, with graduate student midfielder Sarah Sinnott rocketing a shot just wide of the goal in the 25th minute.
After outshooting RIT, 8–2, in the first half, the Bombers continued to keep up the pressure following the intermission.
The Bombers earned an incredible chance with a shot by junior midfielder Julia Cascone that went just wide in the 54th minute as the Bombers continued to put shots on goal.
The Bombers would see their best chance come from a corner in the 76th minute that nearly put the team on the board, but clanged off the crossbar and out of bounds.
The physical and high-energy game came to an end without score, the Bombers and RIT drew even at 0–0.
Cascone reflected on where she sees the team’s strengths and what she wants to improve on going into the next match.
“We moved the ball well today and had our chances, but, going forward, we have to take advantage of our shots and step up in the final third,” Cascone said.
The Bombers will head on the road to take on the Rochester Polytechnic Institute Engineers at 4 p.m. Oct. 28.
