The volleyball team defeated Williams College on Nov. 13, sweeping the Ephs in three sets to move on in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Bombers won the first set 25–21, took the second set 25–17, and finished off the match by taking the third set 25–20, improving their record to 31–4.
The Blue and Gold collected 40 kills, with a .277 hitting percentage, while limiting Williams to only 32 kills on a .118 hitting percentage. The Bombers also collected 42 digs, 36 assists, eight service aces and seven blocks.
The South Hill squad was led by sophomore outside hitter Joelle Goldstein on the offensive front, who finished with 15 kills and a .355 hitting percentage. Freshman middle hitter Katie Evans recorded a strong offensive performance for the Bombers, finishing with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Fellow freshman Hailey Adler and Amanda Cerruti finished the day at the net with five and four kills, respectively. Cerruti recorded a .400 hitting percentage, ranking second on the team in the match.
Sophomore setter Kayla Gromen dished out 31 assists for the Blue and Gold. She also recorded six digs, three kills, three service aces and two blocks on the night.
Senior libero Dylan Gawinski-Stern led the defense for the Bombers, collecting eight digs in the match. Gawinski-Stern also picked up two service aces and two assists on the night. Goldstein and Adler both collected eight digs as well. Sophomore defensive specialist Marlee Wierda finished the night with seven digs. Cerruti was a force at the net for the Blue and Gold, recording five blocks in the match. Goldstein and sophomore right side Caroline Gerulskis collected two blocks, while Adler and Evans picked up one apiece.
The Blue and Gold are set to face the winner of the Colby-Sawyer College-Clarkson University match at 5 p.m. Nov. 14 at Clarkson University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
