5 Date Night Tips

By Angel L. Zayas, Angel L. Zayas February 14, 2015
Valentine’s Day has always been my favorite holiday. I know. I’m a really sappy person, but I don’t think that Valentine’s Day should be called a “Hallmark Holiday”, like so many label it. Isn’t there something magical about every holiday that has been celebrated for centuries? I think there is. Maybe, that makes me a hopeless romantic. However, I’ve always been a firm believer that, though Cupid may not exist, love strives most on this holiday and that, whether it’s a lover, friend, or family member, it’s okay to just tell someone, on this day, “I love you.” And I understand just how vulnerable that can make a person, when they put it all on the line, but it’s so so so worth it!

You Deserve Healthy Relationships, Plural

By Christina Tudor February 14, 2015

This past Thursday I started facilitating a program called SPEAK, a prevention program for adults with developmental disabilities that focuses on education around consent and healthy relationships. Although...

Why I Write (On Writing)

By Angel L. Zayas, Angel L. Zayas February 10, 2015
I told myself and members of my writing class that I would never write anything with this title. I mean, how can one write a remake of one of the greatest essays of all time? George Orwell, one of my biggest role models, as a writer. I wouldn’t be the first to say that remakes are never better than the original, and I am definitely no Orwell. Don’t compare me to him, though I know you may. I would rather not have that burden of a comparison. However, there are some things on my mind that need to be expressed, that I feel can only be expressed through what one may call “mind to paper” writing. So, let’s try this out. I have a lot to say.

How to Stay Motivated

By Christina Tudor February 10, 2015

Last night, I was sitting in my bed struggling to get off Facebook and actually finish my paper that was due the next day. I was tired. I wanted to go to sleep. I didn’t have any more energy to keep...

The March prepares to enter the BP oil refinery in Whiting, IN.

Oil workers on strike

By Faith Meckley, Staff Writer February 9, 2015
Just yesterday, about 1,400 workers from two more oil refineries — BP's Whiting and Toledo, Ohio operations — joined the strike, now 11 refineries strong. The Climate March walked through both of these refineries. I imagine some of the very same workers we spoke to in Whiting are now risking their livelihood to demand better working conditions.
Basically, the best part of Mean Girls can also help with anxiety. (Maybe, it's just me.)

Anxious Angel

By Angel L. Zayas, Angel L. Zayas February 8, 2015
Hello, readers! Today, we’re going to be talking about something that I’ve gone through and that I’m sure many of you have also gone through. Anxiety. This is not really a laughing matter, because this is something that can completely consume you. For any of you who know what it’s like to have an anxiety attack, it’s horrible. You shut down. You feel everything and nothing, all at once. However, I do believe that there are SO many methods to overcoming anxiety and taking control. I am going to share just a few of those with you, today. But first, story time.

Every Day is A Great Day

By Angel L. Zayas, Angel L. Zayas February 3, 2015
Today, we are going to talk about negativity. I know that this is a little less formal than usual, but I felt it necessary to bring this subject up. I mean, negativity is this entity present in most people’s lives, and it can suffocate, drown, and destroy you, if you let it. Sometimes, it comes from the people around you, the things you watch, and even yourself. However, the idea here is to not let it become a dominant part of your life. I know from experience what it’s like to struggle to stay positive. It’s even harder when the people around you are constantly tearing you down. You feel inferior and angry and “too much”. I don’t want anyone to feel how I felt.
