Women’s lacrosse remains undefeated in the Empire 8

The Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team got back in the win column April 23, defeating Alfred University 23–1.

The win, which saw 12 Bombers get on the scoreboard, propelled the Bombers to 10–4 on the season. The Bombers are now 6–0 in the Empire 8 Conference, putting them in sole possession of first place in the conference.

With two wins in their remaining conference games against Utica College and St. John Fisher College, the Bombers would conquer the Empire 8 regular season title, making them the host for the conference tournament, May 7–8.

In the game, senior midfielder Riley Marion and junior attacker Morgan Racicot each totaled five points, while Marion also won four draw controls and forced three turnovers. Sophomore attacker Eve Mahaney had a career-high four points in the win.

Freshmen attackers Maeve Cambria and Danika Wagener each tallied one goal with two assists, while senior defenseman Mackenzie Robinson; juniors attackers Gaby Berne, Olivia Oppenheim and midfielder Morgan Cadwell; and freshman midfielder Erin McGee scored two goals apiece for Ithaca.

Oppenheim, sophomore defenseman Elizabeth Sauer and freshman defenseman Reid Simoncini each forced two turnovers. The team forced 22 total turnovers, while only committing 12.

The Blue and Gold’s defense was stout, holding Alfred scoreless for 39 minutes. They also dominated at face-offs, winning 18 of 26 draw controls.

The Bombers finish off their regular season campaign at home hosting Utica at 1 p.m. April 24.
