On March 14 and 15, the Ithaca College wrestling team wrapped up another season with a 42nd place finish at the NCAA Division lll National Championship. Despite falling short of lofty preseason goals that included competing for a national team title, the team still holds its head high led by senior Xavier Pommells who recorded an All-American finish by placing eighth overall in the 184 lb bracket.

Bombers compete over the winter break

While the Ithaca College student and faculty body returned home for winter break, many varsity teams remained in action over the break. Basketball, swimming and diving, track and field, men’s wrestling and gymnastics all competed during the academic recess, putting up multiple impressive performances.

For the first time since the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships on March 15 and 16, the Ithaca College men’s wrestling team took to the mat at its 40th annual season-opening Bomber Invitational on Nov. 1-2. Out of the 11 teams at the meet, the team saw itself in fourth place after day one with 46 points and concluded day two and the invitational in third place with 151.5 points.

The Ithaca College men’s wrestling team competed in the Ithaca Quad on Feb. 3, dominating in all three matches in a pinning frenzy. Throughout the three matches, the Bombers racked up 14 wins by fall.

In-house coaching staff keeps Bombers wrestling connected

When the Ithaca College wrestling team returned to campus this fall, the practice room was more crowded than normal. However, there is still familiarity in the room — on top of the new athletes, there are five new assistant coaches, four of whom were athletes on the team last season.
