Terraces Dining Hall and Baker Walkway elevator project still underway amid challenges

The Terrace Elevator Connector Project at Ithaca College started April 1 and has been underway since then, causing Terrace 1 to be closed to students. In the time frame since the project began, the spiral staircase at the Terrace Dining Hall has been removed and two all-gender restrooms have been added on the first floor of the dining hall. 
The Terrace Elevator Connector Project includes a new elevator that will make six stops through the ground floor of the Terrace Dining Hall up to Terrace 1; an accessible walkway that will connect Baker Walkway and the Terrace Bridge level to the dining hall; and two all-gender bathrooms on the ground floor of the dining hall. The only accessible entrance to the dining hall is on the west side of the building.

Dave Maley, director of public relations at the college, told The Ithacan Dec. 9 that the swastika was located on the rock wall outside of Terrace 3, not outside of the Terrace Dining Hall as it was reported in the email to the campus community Dec. 8.

Swastika found drawn outside Terraces on first night of Hanukkah

A swastika was found drawn into the snow outside of Terrace Dining Hall — the location of the Kosher Kitchen at Ithaca College — on Dec. 7, which was the first night of Hanukkah. 
On Oct. 3, the Town of Ithaca Planning Board approved Ithaca College's proposal to build a five story elevator that runs from the Terrace Dining Hall to the Terrace One residence hall and a covered entrance that connects the dining hall to the Baker Walkway. Currently, there are three flights of stairs that lead to the primary entrance of the Terrace Dining Hall.

After getting its proposal approved, Ithaca College is beginning to work on a timeline for a project that will add an elevator to the Terraces Dining Hall and a covered entrance to the dining hall that connects to the Baker Walkway to increase accessibility on the upper campus.

Somber music was played in Muller Chapel on Dec. 7 as Steven Rorick’s loved ones and his Ithaca College family lit candles and celebrated his life.
One of many upgrades to campus that students will see this semester, is a newly-renovated studio in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Other renovations include upgrades to the Fitness Center; improved Wi-Fi service; and renovations in the Terrace Dining Hall.
