1. There will be a vigil at 6 p.m. in Muller Chapel for junior Michael Clark, who was killed Sunday in a car accident, as well as for injured students junior Ezra Chamberlain, junior Melanie Pond and sophomore Christopher Rose. While returning to Ithaca on Sunday night, Clark swerved to avoid a deer and died in the resulting crash.

2. Career Services is holding an information session at 12:15 p.m. about the Urban Teacher Center, a program dedicated to preparing teachers to help their students succeed in the classroom. Students will be able to learn about the organization and its hiring practices, including job and internship openings. Anyone wishing to attend should sign up on eRecruiting.

3. The Student Activities Board will hold its annual Xtreme Gingerbread Competition at 7 p.m. in IC Square. Teams of 2–4 students will be competing to build the best gingerbread house. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

4. There will be a workshop that will teach students to manage their presence on Twitter and other social media at 2:30 p.m. in Muller 101. Employers often research candidates online before hiring them, so the workshop will show students how to protect their professional image. Sign up on eRecruiting.

What was The Ithacan reporting 9 years ago?

During the week of Dec. 2, 2004, The Ithacan ran a front-page story about the study habits of students. According to the 2003 National Survey of Student Engagement, 44 percent of students said they studied fewer than 10 hours a week, and 89 percent of students studied fewer than 25 hours a week. The faculty surveyed said students need to study 25 hours a week to be successful, but students said even though they studied less than that, they earned mostly A’s and B’s.
