After running into the slush and freezing rain to get to the gym, my friend got to the sign up for Body Pump 20 minutes before the 4pm class with lots of spaces to spare.
The aerobics room was pretty packed when we got inside; each person setting up their own area with the following equipment:
- Bar bell (with plates you could lift realistically)
- dumbells
- yoga mat
- Aerobic step
Alternating between arms, abs and legs focus, Nikole had every part burning. Within the first 15 minutes of squatting with bar bell for the first time a single sweat dropped from the crease of both my arms at the same time. Other than that, I didn’t sweat as much as I usually do from a workout, but I know that my body worked really hard because our legs felt like jello after walking out of the class. I’m sure my upper arms and shoulders will hurt tomorrow too, as I never get around to working on them in the first place.
The only negative thing that I found about the class was the pressure on my knees. Obviously, squats were going to do that, especially with the extra pressure from the weights: On the other hand, Nikole made sure we were protecting by performing extra plié’s during activities like dead-weights.
If you usually do cardio, I would definitely recommend this class to balance everything out in your routine.
