Swimming and diving competes against Hartwick and Geneseo

The Ithaca College women’s and men’s swimming teams competed against Hartwick College and SUNY Geneseo on Nov. 20 at the Athletics and Events Center. The men’s team lost to Geneseo, but defeated Hartwick. The women’s team beat both teams and remains undefeated.

Senior Adam Zelehowsky placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.33. Zelehowsky also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshman Andrew Mikhailichenko won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59:68 and the 200-yard breaststroke by six seconds. Sophomore Jake Hewitt placed second in the 200-yard butterfly.

Sophomore Aaron Levin placed second in the 50-yard freestyle, missing first place by 0.01 seconds. The Bombers’ took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay.

The women’s team had a strong start to the meet as the Bombers took first and second place in the first event, the 200-yard medley relay. The Bombers’ A relay, composed of seniors Grace Ayer, Sam Reilly, Lake Duffy and sophomore Jackie Pecze, finished with a time of 1:47.56. SUNY Geneseo’s A relay was disqualified on its last leg, allowing the Bombers’ B relay to take second place. Ayer later won the 200-yard individual medley, finishing six seconds ahead of the second-place winner.

Freshman Justine Wantz placed second in the 100-yard backstroke to SUNY Geneseo swimmer senior Emily Smith. Wantz finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.90.

Reilly, freshman Ashley Warren and sophomore Hannah Parbst finished first, second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Parbst won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.72. Duffy finished first for both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. In the diving pool, senior Nickie Griesemer dominated both the 3- and 1-meter diving.

The men’s and women’s teams will compete again after the Thanksgiving holiday break. The teams will race again at the Bomber Invitational on Dec. 2–4 at the Athletics and Events Center.
