Last season’s 2-1 loss to Keuka College was fresh in the minds of the softball team today as they defeated the Storm with 5-1 and 14-0 victories in Keuka Park, N.Y.
Despite temperatures in the 30s, the softball team had no problems keeping its bats hot against SUNY-Buffalo today, picking up victories of 11-2 and 11-6.
The softball team entered its five-series road trip with an overall record of 9-10. But with a rejuvenated offense and solid pitching, they have surged above the .500 mark and currently hold a mark of 18-11 overall following yesterday’s doubleheader sweep against King’s College.
The softball team is running a clinic on perseverance these days.
After losing five games in a row, the softball team found the most opportunistic time to face Utica College, a team they have not lost to since joining the Empire 8 conference.
Every time junior catcher Lindsey Johnson comes to the plate to hit, she performs the same ritual, touching the second “A” in the middle of her Easton Stealth bat as a tribute to her pony Andy. After this symbolic gesture, she steps into the batter’s box with strength and poise.
The softball team played nine games in a six-day span at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. to begin its season.
