Meet the new director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life with ice cream
The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will be organizing an ice cream social from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3 in Muller Chapel. Lauren Kelly Benson, the new director of the office, will be hosting the event. Benson is interested in meeting the campus community and learning about students. The Muller Chapel lobby will have kosher, halal and non-dairy ice cream options available.Â
Benson started working at the college Aug. 5 after taking the place of Austin Reid, the former interim director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life.Â
A playdate in the iClicker sandbox for faculty
An iClicker workshop will be held for faculty members from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Sept. 4 in Job 103. Faculty members are encouraged to play around with the iClicker sandbox, a program used in Canvas for polling classes, short quizzes and attendance. The workshop will be organized by the Center for Instructional Design and Instructional Technology and will help faculty learn the program. The workshop will show faculty members how to use the tool through the student view and then how to download the program and connect it to Canvas.Â
Faculty members can get an overview of iClicker from an iClicker representative with a Zoom link.Â
Understanding why LinkedIn is important for college students
The Center for Career Exploration & Development will be hosting a workshop about the importance of building a presence on LinkedIn from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 in Muller Center 101. The workshop will teach students what LinkedIn does, the ways people use it in their professional lives and how it can help students develop their career paths. Students who need Student Leadership Institute (SLI) credit for this workshop are encouraged to RSVP at least 24 hours in advance.
Learn how to use a laser cutter at the Makerspace
The campus community will have the opportunity to make a custom light-up acrylic sign from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Makerspace (Friends 102) on Sept. 6. Participants will be taught how to use the laser cutter to make the signs. The acrylic will be engraved by the laser cutter and then fit into a color-changing base for the light. The light base can be activated by a USB or batteries and all materials will be completely free. The signs are safe to put in dorm rooms and can be used as decorations.Â
The BIPOC Unity Center hosts its annual barbecue
Unity Friday: Homecoming will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 on the Campus Center quad. The rain date location will be in IC Square. Homecoming is the BIPOC Unity Center’s annual barbecue and is open to the entire campus community. The event is free and is being organized by the BIPOC Unity Center to create spaces that all students can feel comfortable in.Â
The BIPOC Unity Center seeks to build community within the college’s BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students through events, programming and resources. The center helps to encourage students to be their most authentic selves by honoring every individual’s experiences and identities.Â
Laser tag in the Fitness Center
Students can play laser tag from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Fitness Center. IC Kicks Off will be hosting the event and will equip players with laser guns and sensor vests. The Fitness Center will have a dark maze for players to navigate, with hiding spots and obstacles. The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible by tagging opponents without being tagged.
