Ithaca College announced that Aaron Bouyea has been hired as the next director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation. The announcement was made by Stanley Bazile, vice president for Student Affairs and Campus Life, on May 27. The college began searching for a new director when Susan Bassett ’79 announced in February that she planned to retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year. Bassett had been director of the program since 2013.

With the regular season closing May 3, the Liberty League Championship Tournament for baseball is set to commence. This year, the Ithaca College baseball team will host the tournament for the first time since the 2022 season, when they captured their first Liberty League title in program history.

The Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team was jumping with joy and dancing in the rain after defeating the Union College Garnet Chargers on May 4. Despite the heavy rain and fog, the Bombers fought hard and clawed their way to back-to-back Liberty League Championship Tournament titles. The win marked Ithaca’s second Liberty League title in program history.

The Ithaca College softball team closed a historic season on a high note with a doubleheader against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on May 3 at Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers swept the Tigers 12-0 in five innings and 5-1 in seven.

A pendulum swings freely when it is put out of balance. If a pendulum is pulled to one side, it will swing back and forth until it has returned to equilibrium. The Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team gutted out a pendulum-like victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers on May 2, thanks to a game-winning goal in the final minutes.

In its return to the postseason, the Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team played like the weather, with the offense striking like lightning and defeating the Vassar College Brewers 19-10 at Higgins Stadium.

For a department with a rich history such as the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Ithaca College, the search for the next athletic director is underway with a deadline of July 1, according to the athletics department.Â

Junior pole vaulter Robert George set the bar high for himself as a first-year athlete before a career altering back injury kept him off the runway for nearly 1 1/2 years. His unlikely return to competition this spring was met with immediate placements at the top of the podium and, as his athletic career potentially winds down, a chance at the closure he was very nearly robbed of.
