Students and administration discuss impact of BIPOC Unity Center staff departures

Ithaca College held a processing session Nov. 30 for BIPOC students to ask questions and share their concerns with college administrators and staff members about the departure of Angélica Carrington, former director of the BIPOC Unity Center. 
On Oct. 3, the Town of Ithaca Planning Board approved Ithaca College's proposal to build a five story elevator that runs from the Terrace Dining Hall to the Terrace One residence hall and a covered entrance that connects the dining hall to the Baker Walkway. Currently, there are three flights of stairs that lead to the primary entrance of the Terrace Dining Hall.

After getting its proposal approved, Ithaca College is beginning to work on a timeline for a project that will add an elevator to the Terraces Dining Hall and a covered entrance to the dining hall that connects to the Baker Walkway to increase accessibility on the upper campus.

Campus community members needed for Middle States Accreditation working groups. Ithaca College is seeking student, staff and faculty volunteers to serve on the self-study team for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation process.
Angélica Carrington, former director of the BIPOC Unity Center, and Radeana Hastings, former program coordinator of the BIPOC Unity Center, no longer work at Ithaca College as of Nov. 10. As of Nov. 14, the college has not announced their departures.

Two members of the Ithaca College BIPOC Unity Center’s professional staff, Angélica Carrington, former director of the BIPOC Unity Center, and Radeana Hastings, former program coordinator of the BIPOC Unity Center, are no longer employed at the college as of Nov. 10.
After an act of overnight vandalism, Ithaca College cut off natural gas connection to the Circles Community Center to make repairs. The center lost access to natural gas and heat until the repairs were completed around 2:30 p.m.

Ithaca College will recognize undergraduate students in the Class of 2024 in a commencement ceremony and graduate students in the Class of 2024 in a commencement and hooding ceremony during the weekend of May 18–19, 2024.

Ithaca College will hold a commencement ceremony for undergraduate students in the Class of 2024 and a commencement and hooding ceremony for graduate students in the Class of 2024 during the weekend of May 18–19, 2024.
SGC members met with Amy Shippos, parking services and transportation coordinator, and Thomas Dunn, associate director and deputy chief in the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, on Nov. 6 to discuss parking changes and make suggestions about how to improve access to parking on campus.

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Nov. 6 to hear updates from the Office of Parking and Traffic Services. SGC also heard concerns about smoking on campus from members of the community and followed up with senator and officer reports.

SGC discusses summer academic onboarding process results

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Oct. 30 with Melanie Stein, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, to discuss the summer academic onboarding process.
The New  York State Legislature passed a bill in September that will allow Ithaca Carshare to obtain auto insurance, meaning the carshare can reopen in March 2024. The carshare faced the threat of permanent closure if the legislation did not pass.

The Ithaca Carshare Program, a membership-based nonprofit that offers 24/7 access to vehicles for members, has announced it will reopen services starting in March 2024 after a bill was passed allowing the nonprofit to acquire auto insurance.
